How fees work
How paying for therapy works here, in the order most parents ask.
Insurance we work with
We bill some insurance plans directly and are out of network with others. Ask us before the first session, and we will tell you which applies to your plan. We do not bill Medicare or Medicaid (Medi-Cal).
Some PPO plans
Some employer plans
If you pay yourself
A parent pays for each session when it takes place. Your fee is given to you in writing before you start, so nothing comes as a surprise. A limited number of reduced-fee spots may open during the year, so ask when you write. HSA and FSA cards work. We ask for 24 hours notice to cancel, and a late cancellation may be charged, up to the fee for the session.
Receipts for reimbursement
Each month we can give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) to send to your plan. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see and which becomes part of your child's record with the plan. Your plan decides whether to reimburse, and we cannot promise it will.
An estimate in advance
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of care before you start. We give you a written estimate before your first session. It is an estimate and not a contract, and you can dispute a bill that is $400 or more above it.
Checking your benefits
Before your first session our office checks what your plan covers for outpatient mental health care and tells you what to expect, or tells you that we are out of network. You can also call the number on your card and ask.
Your fee is given to you in writing before your first session.
