What to expect
Your first session
What happens, in order, for a child, a teen and the parents.
- 01
Step 1: Before the visit
A clinician speaks with the parents or caregivers by phone. Share what you would like to, and ask anything. Health details are collected only on our own client portal, never in the website form.
- 02
Step 2: Arriving
Come a few minutes early. The waiting area has books and a quiet corner for parents, and your clinician comes out to meet you.
- 03
Step 3: The first half hour
For a child, the clinician talks with you and your child together, then spends a few minutes with your child. For a teen, the clinician starts with the teen and then invites a parent in.
- 04
Step 4: Privacy, in plain words
The clinician explains what stays private and what a parent is told, as set out on our consent page, and answers questions from the teen and the parent.
- 05
Step 5: Before you leave
You hear what the clinician noticed, what a next visit could look like, and how scheduling and fees work. Nothing is decided on the spot.
Good to know
Before you come
How long is the first session?
Sessions are 50 minutes, including the time with parents.
Should I tell my child why we are coming?
Yes, in simple and true words. Your clinician can suggest how to put it for your child's age.
Can both parents come?
Yes. If parents share custody, we may ask for the court order that says who can consent to care.
